The opinion and preference of an individual can be dramatically influence by the people surrounding them, because if an individual creates a strong connect with people from one environment and the other seams to only be superficial, subsequently the preference of where to exists will be strongly influenced on that information. Yet, additionally the personae of an individual is equally significance, if a person feels strong links and nostalgic about people they have grown up with or if as a person they revel in meeting and talking to new people, either of which scenarios an individual prefers it will influence their decision. Or even the personal concept of freedom, some people may feel that university gives them complete freedom to do what they want and choose when without the trouble of an authority figure such as a parent being stood holding them accountable. Yet this could be offset by the individuals who see the experience of university as physically very restraining because of only being able to move within the university, the university town and with limited experience and knowledge of surrounding areas. Though the above is effective at proving a broad outline of why some individuals may prefer one environment too the other, and is sufficient at providing a counterbalance to the other side of the article. It does not provide an explanation to why some people’s preference to where they wish to existence is simple based on where they are, in other words wishing they was in the opposite environment to the one they exist in.

People at university do overall generally enjoy there experiences, but it can be hear in people’s voices in conversation with them that they do linger for things they have had to leave behind at home. People can be hared talking about how they miss their family, especially younger children which can not visit them at university. This can even be expanded to wider social situations, because while away at university the social setting of everyone someone knows from back home meeting up at their local pub is probably never going to happen. Also, simply talking to people for back home leads to a longing for a return of the enjoyment, and happy socialising with people you’ve know for years. Though, while on back at home during holiday from university there can also be a longing to go back at times. The ability to simply knock on the door next to you, and be able to sit and talk to whoever’s next door is something which can be missed at home. The effort it takes to arrange a social event at university is far easier because of the constant social attitude and the mass variety of places to go too. Additionally while at home there is the trouble of having to work to be able to pay for existence, while at university there is freedom of existence with only being tied to the vague outline of academic work which is scheduled around yourself. Thus, university can bring its own advantages which are not available back home. Though in conclusion, possibly this entire article is based on ideals. The ideals of the other environment, the ability to only see the good side of the other environment. In discussing within this article there’s been few negatives of actually existing in an environment just the positives of being somewhere else.

But I don’t claim to hold all the answers of how people are suppose to exist. Thus realism could be useful here, by not holding a monopoly on personal experiences of everyone, the article is only based on my personal feelings, observations and assumptions. But any comments on expanding this would be appreciated. Though it’s quite a sad feature of the human condition if we define ourselves by places where we are not, that people can not find comfort in their own existence. Maybe the answer to this dilemma of not truly knowing were to exist can simple be solved by nihilism, nothingness and blissful ignorance, - while in one environment cut all ties with the other, not out of dislike, but simply out of not being pulled emotionally into that world leave behind – just maybe?

I’m finding that I’m getting used to moving between home and uni, and I don’t pine so much for the other. I think it just takes time to get used to something, and once you are, you’ll wonder how you did anything before. I can imagine everybody feeling depressed once uni’s over for good.
